Rev. Marvin King Jr. was born in Houston, Texas and is the oldest of three children. He is the son of Marvin O. King Sr. and Delores King (deceased). Pastor King attended Drake University in Des Moines Iowa as a member of the men’s basketball team. While a student-athlete at Drake University, Rev. King was a member of the Drake Gospel choir, a peer mentor, and served as a leader of the NCAA student-athlete advisory board. In 1996, Rev. King graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Drake University. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with IBM Global Services in Lexington, KY. There he met and married the former Rosalynn Ivy and they have been blessed with two wonderful children: Marvin King III (Tre) and Mason King.
Rev. King announced his call to the preaching ministry on December 2, 2001. He then preached his initial sermon on January 26, 2002 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. B. Akins at First Baptist Church Bracktown. Rev. King served in many ministerial roles as an associate minister at First Baptist Bracktown. Those roles included teen bible study teacher, youth ministry volunteer, Sunday school teacher, and men’s ministry leader respectively. In addition, Rev. King was involved in several community related organizations such as YMCA Black Achievers, Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass and the Carver Center Board.
On November 21, 2003 Rev. King was ordained in the gospel ministry and received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. In 2005, Rev. King was transferred to Raleigh, North Carolina with IBM and became an associate minister and chief armor bearer to Pastor Mark Anthony Middleton of the Abundant Hope Christian Church, Durham, North Carolina.
Rev. King served the congregation of Abundant Hope for two years before making a complete transition into full time ministry. In 2007, Pastor King accepted a position as the Director of Ministries at Consolidated Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Gaines. Rev. King served in several ministerial capacities while at Consolidated Baptist Church such as the Director of Family Life and Director of the Andrew Center. He also served in roles such as administration/strategic planning, leadership development, and family ministries, (i.e. children/youth, men, women, outreach/evangelism etc).
Rev. King was called as pastor of First Baptist Church in Winchester, KY January 2010. Rev. King has a passion for preaching and teaching God’s Word as well as developing and preparing leaders in the Kingdom of God. He has been involved in developing leaders for 21st century leadership both inside and outside of the church. He is committed to organizations that promote the welfare of individuals in the community. He currently serves on the Boards of Simmons College of Kentucky, Assurance Care Center, Rapha Ministries, and YMCA Black Achievers.
Rev. King loves God’s people and has a strong desire to see them reach their full potential and be all that God has called them to be.
